Liz Emtage Ceramics make bespoke, translucent, porcelain lighting, hand-built in unrestrained natural forms that exploit the malleable quality of the clay. These lamps are inlaid with different organic textures, which leave a delicate impression in the clay surface. When lit these lamps emit an ethereal glow, converting the surface decoration into textures of light. When off the lamps become sculptural pieces, rich with subtle surface pattern. The lamps are naturally ivory in colour, although they can have stains mixed into the clay body, creating subtle colour tones – which become more dramatic when the piece is illuminated.
Currently the range consists of table and floor lamps, pendant shades, standard lamps, wall lights and night lights. We also do commissions for clients and develop site specific pieces. Often working with architects, interior designers, visual merchandising managers for high end shops, hotels and restaurants. Individuals can request particular leaves or flowers from their gardens to be inlaid into their light, or a favourite pattern or texture.
More than 20 years experience has gone into the making of Liz Emtage’s unique porcelain lighting. A passion for art and design that has developed over a lifetime. Liz is inspired by the power and the beauty of the natural world. She constantly experiments with the clay in order to expand the range of lights and finishes that can be produced.
