From Monday the 12th of April until the 30th of April, Crafting a Difference at SoShiro will be receiving visitors to the exhibition, in person.
Designed to coincide with the launch of the Crafts Council’s annual art fair Collect 2021 this is a physical exhibition of innovative craftsmanship housed in a beautiful townhouse in Marylebone, London. Curated by Brian Kennedy, this second edition of Crafting a Difference brings together more than 200 pieces of work in ceramics, wood, glass, metals, textiles, paint, paper, and plastic by over 70 artists from Cavaliero Finn, jaggedart, MADEINBRITALY, Ting-Ying Gallery and Vessel Gallery. The exhibition is supported by the Michelangelo Foundation and the Loewe Foundation.
Now that COVID restrictions have lifted this exhibition can now be seen in-person and via the virtual 3D tour.
Featured artists from the Cavaliero Finn portfolio are as follows:
Angela Charles, Annie Turner, Ashraf Hanna, Akiko Hirai, Björk Haraldsdóttir, Caron Penney, Cecilia Moore, Daniel Reynolds, Frances Priest, Hannah Tounsend, Ikuko Iwamoto, Jacy Wall, Katharine Swailes, Matthew Chambers, Mimi Joung, Nicholas Lees, and Simon Gaiger
“The craft sector has been hit hard by the pandemic, yet it’s also been a very creative time for many makers, artists and gallerists. For ‘Crafting a Difference’, not only do we have makers from Kenya, France, Spain, Japan, Argentina, China, UK, USA, Italy, Ireland, Egypt, Brazil, Scandinavia, Chile, Korea, Iceland and Vietnam, but a wide mix of materials and methods are being explored. Our intention is clear: to illustrate that now, more than ever, the process of creation, is undeniably a deep-rooted, unifying force.”

|“It’s incredibly exciting to host the debut of ‘Crafting A Difference’ at SoShiro and to finally be able to welcome visitors in person to our space” says SoShiro founder Shiro Muchiri. “This show brings together over 200 objects from across the globe, focusing on the beauty of making and all the varied elements intrinsic to work created by hand.”|
This exhibition truly has been a mammoth achievement for everyone involved and we are particularly grateful to curator Brian Kennedy and Shiro Muchiri and her team who have worked tirelessly on behalf of all the galleries. Organising two editions of an exhibition during a national lockdown, enabling each gallery to install their work in relay to keep everyone safe has been no mean feat and we can’t thank them enough. Shiro Muchiri and her team have been first-class hosts, so kind and accomodating sharing their wonderful gallery space.
Please bear in mind that to keep visitors and gallerists safe during the exhibition, there will be strict control of the numbers of people in the building at any one time. If you would like to arrange a tour with either Juliana or Debra please just drop us a line after booking your slot and we will endeavour to be present during your visit.
During the course of our time at SoShiro for Crafting a Difference – Collect Edition, our posts will look at the artists’ work more closely, featuring a series of detailed images, artists’ interviews, and videos.
