Alice Mara was invited by the Norman Parkinson Archive to produce a body of work in response to the work of the iconic, fashion photographer, Norman Parkinson. This beautiful, bone china, Swimming Pool Platter was designed by Alice as part of a larger body of three dimensional work following her trip to the Archive.
The platter has been produced in a limited edition of 50 with the kind permission of The Norman Parkinson Archive.
The Platter features the famous ‘Jump’ image of Pamela Minchin photographed on the Isle of Wight, wearing a Fortnum and Mason bathing suit. It was taken for Harper’s Bazaar in 1939. Norman Parkinson credited this photograph as being one of the most significant of his career as it confirmed his vocation as a photographer.
“When I pulled that picture out of the soup it confirmed to me for the rest of my life that I had to be a photographer. I was absolutely amazed by the magic of it.” Norman Parkinson
