Originally from Iceland, Bjork studied architecture at The Glasgow School of Art and worked in the industry for over 20 years for a number renowned architects including Richard Rogers before exploring her passion for ceramic forms. She retrained completely, taking a number of courses in ceramics and is now producing a series of hand built geometric sculptures which are heavily influenced by her Nordic heritage and architectural background.
The artist’s practical knowledge of how clay behaves under different environmental exposure has been mainly gained under the guidance of Master Potter Douglas Phillips.
In November 2017 Bjork’s work was selected by fine artist and furniture maker, John Makepeace to win the Applied Arts Prize at the Marshwood Arts Awards.
