Framed canvas in acrylic, charcoal, pastel & digital print
125cm x 105cm
Hannah Tounsend combines ceramics and printmaking to create collections of sensitively realised artworks that explore the layered landscapes and sea-washed, weatherworn surfaces of the British coastline. Marks, lines and diffused merging colours are built up, cut through and dissolved away.
Winter Tide is constructed from a one-off digital print that is repeatedly overworked with thin washes of acrylic paint, charcoal and pastels. Hannah revisits the painting time and time again over several months until the composition and surface qualities feel resolved. The canvas is framed in black stained wood.
Hannah recently was shortlisted as one of ten finalists for the British Ceramics Biennial’s 2019 AWARD with her work A Record of Sorts. AWARD showcases ground-breaking and progressive practice, capturing the breadth and dynamism of artists engaging with clay today.
In 2015 Hannah won the Fresh award for her series of printed vessels: Traversing the Line. Hannah received a one-month residency at Guldagergaard, the International Ceramics Research Centre in Denmark, and an opportunity to exhibit at the next biennial in 2017.
