Jacy Wall’s textile and print work is an exploration of the qualities of textiles, through surfaces, pattern, structure, seams, thread and stitch. This piece was inspired by a Scarlet Tiger moth the artist spotted in her yard just as she was beginning this tapestry, and features Jacy’s palette of black and white which are often used a backdrop to Jacy’s tapestries with hints of red and yellow in wool and linen which she dyes herself. Interventions such as stitching, patching and darning imply instability and fragility, reflecting on a long-time interest in the theme of mending.
