Claire’s strange and beautifully-crafted ceramic head sculptures both disturb and enchant in equal measures. The soft facial expressions of the sculptural heads sit alongside foreign-looking growths that often cover the entirety of the face. Through the titles Claire’s simple, almost childlike forms become a vehicle for her personal concerns and interests including the natural world, melancholy, humour, the process of ageing and feminism.
Claire also produces drawings, prints, ceramic tiles and is the author of a book published in 2013 for Bloomsbury ‘The New Ceramics: Sculpting and Handbuilding’. Claire completed an MA in Ceramics at University Wales Institute Cardiff. She has exhibited at Origin and Ceramic Art London.
