These pod forms start life on the wheel using whatever clay is to hand, after which Lise closes the opening, removing function, roughly carving and bashing the surface around using her hand, brushes, wood and rocks to create a wonderful organic surface. With only a hint of an opening, each one finds its natural lying point, almost randomly, like seed pods fallen to the ground.
Speaking about her pod forms Lise said: "The Pods are really special pieces to me, as there's something so elemental and quite emotional about them. The making process is somewhat like a dance between disaster and success, when the clay is about to give in to the fierce treatment I subject them to, somehow something magical happens and a really interesting shape emerges and manages to hold together. They are in some way a metaphor for nature itself, a tale of change, development, destruction and re-birth. I'm often told they look like found objects, created by nature itself, and with only little evidence of deliberate making. This is a huge compliment to me"
