Growing up in a family of makers and gatherers Cecilia Moore has worked in many materials but always returns to metal. Trained formally in silversmithing in Birmingham, she studied dinanderie in Paris and sculpture and a Masters in metal design in Dublin where she combines these traditional making techniques. Being acutely aware of the mining industry's damage to the environment she prioritises the reuse of metal in her work particularly the metal parts that are integral to her designs. The family trait of gathering materials has built her a repository over many years of metal bits inherited from friends and family and found discarded metal bits which have been collected on her daily walks and cycles through the city. Dismantling these parts is one of her work processes, it not only gives information on the quality of the metal but creates more parts and ideas for designs, it is one of the great aspects of working in metal, she will even dismantle her own work if it doesn't feel right. She feels at this stage of life she wants her finished work to reflect to the audience through its forms, balance and colours, the joy and playfulness of the making process.
