Dusk can be an alluring subject for a painter; an intoxicating time between day and night, as objects gradually lose their definition and colours take on a strange intensity. Kate tends to focus on everyday subjects, fleeting snapshots which in the twilight can become unsettling, or suggest tenderness, but always poetic. Whites glow through the half-light, other colours, for a short window, become vibrant, and then deepen, disappearing into the shadows, the muted tones evoking a timeless, flickering nostalgia.
