Kate Sherman
One of a series of paintings artist Kate Sherman made after a trip to Norway during the winter of 2019, depicting the landscape as seen from a moving vehicle. Talking about this painting she said: "I was interested in the way the moving view divided up the picture plane, with the foreground becoming blurred and abstracted, and the background retaining much of the detail, drawing your gaze in. The quality of light was really unique at that time; the daylight hours were short as it was mid-winter, and the change from day to dusk was quite mesmerizing and cinematic. The limited colour palette really appealed to me, I was obsessed with how the essentially white colour-field translated into so many subtle colour variations, the mauves and blues shadowy and nuanced against the fast-changing glowing sky."
