The series of paintings “A Place to Live” are street views of houses in London, derived from estate agents adverts in newspapers. Taken together they make up a pictorial anthology of the urban environment, drawing upon visual experiences stored in the artist’s memory from walking around London streets. There are now over 60 paintings in the series. These pictures are painted with the minimum of thin glazes onto plywood, to preserve the texture of the wood. This gives them a feeling of receding like fading memories into the grain of the surface.
