Daniel Reynolds
Overview
Daniel Reynolds is a sculptor and ceramicist, creating abstract kinetic sculptures, lighting, and large ceramic vessels.
Rooted in his love of concrete architecture and inspired by mid-century artists and architects such as Victor Pasmore, William Scott, Jesus Soto, and Alexander Calder, Daniel’s kinetic sculptures feature ceramic, glass and wooden elements that reflect geometric mid-century designs. The relationship between the components is crucial in achieving balance, harmony and beauty.
Daniel’s commissions include; a kinetic mobile for the Waldorf Residences New York to be installed later this year, a collection of porcelain vessels for Four Seasons ‘Anahita’ Resort in the Mauritius; Geometric Wall Plaques for the Royal Palace Complex – Bahrain; an Installation of ‘Organica’ Sculpture for the Crosby Street Hotel, New York; large hand built pots for the Dorset Square Hotel, London; and three Abstract Kinetic Sculptures for the Ham Yard Hotel, London.
Daniel’s bespoke commissions were featured in FT How to Spend It in an article by Rachelle Gryn Brettler.
His work appears in many collections including: Patricia Phelps de Cisneros Collection, New York, Colección Banco Mercantil, Caracas, Venezuela, Jorge F. Rivas Pérez Collection, New York, Christian Vinck H., Santiago, Chile, James Nesbitt and Sir Ian McKellen, London.
Following Cavaliero Finn’s presentation of Daniel’s work at the Crafts Council’s exhibition platform, Collect 2018, the artist was commissioned by The New Art Centre to create a site-specific kinetic sculpture. The sculpture formed part of an installation which launched the new Design House, created by award winning architect, Stephen Marshall.
Daniel was commissioned by the Crafts Council to create his largest kinetic sculpture to date as part of Cavaliero Finn’s presentation at Collect 2020. The impressive 2.25 m. x 2.50 m, 18 kg piece reacted to the breeze and changing light of the space for which it was designed, hung in the Oval Corridor of the West Wing of Somerset House during Collect 2020.
Daniel graduated with a BA Hons in Painting and Sculpture from Brighton Polytechnic, preceeded by a BA Hons in 3D Design from Middlesex Polytechnic.
