Matthew Chambers' wonderfully rhythmic sculptures are constructed of numerous sections of hand-thrown ceramic parts built on the potter's wheel. He produces subtle differentiations in colour on each section of the sculpture by using stoneware with oxides integrated into the clay, rather than glazes. On completion, each form conveys different and individual properties of space, light, and colour, and sustains an expression of abstract and rhythmical beauty from its pattern of shape.

In his latest sculptures created for Cavaliero Finn, Matthew has been working in more muted colours with a softer, more subtle gradation. This gives greater visual focus to the new rhythmical patterns created by the enclosed hand-thrown sections. The sculptures are more concerned with the reveal of the pattern rather than its concealment, as with his previous work and there's a real sense of growth in the work both metaphorically and in terms of form. Looking at the almost bud-like quality of the new sculptures, you see Matthew focusing on bringing the inside out, a visual representation of his creative journey and desire to push his work further.
