In this series, Catherine Knight considers how the moon unites mankind across the globe, sharing one moon seen from a multitude of viewpoints. Catherine uses social media networks to gather visual input for her small series of paintings. In this case, photos were sent to her by her instagram followers sharing views of the full moon from wherever they were in the world. This technique continued the connections made during the pandemic through her Isolation Window project.
The moon is problematic to photograph, especially with camera phones and it often doesn’t match how it looks to the human eye. Catherine enjoys painting these small oil on paper paintings which she describes as "little moments shared, little moments of wonder."

Catherine recalled a quote from writer Haruki Murakami when considering how this series might take shape.

“There was just one moon. That familiar, yellow, solitary moon. The same moon that silently floated over fields of pampas grass, the moon that rose - a gleaming, round saucer- over the calm surface of lakes, that tranquilly beamed down on the rooftops of fast- asleep houses. The same moon that brought the high tide to shore, that softly shone on the fur of animals and enveloped and protected travellers at night. The moon that, as a crescent, shaved slivers from the soul- or, as a new moon, silently bathed the earth in its own loneliness. THAT moon.”
