Sara Brennan's Black Bands tapestries I,II & III touch on the passing of time, the marking of history and of place.
The linens on either side of the black wools are different white linens. They alter the woven surface and create a new sense of place with in the tapestry.
The line moves between these two whites surfaces. It draws attention to what is constantly changing but what is also to what is constantly there. Sarah uses small amounts of coloured sewing threads between each line. This helps the dense black of the wool to resonate and occupy the space.
Talking about these very finely woven tapestries Sara Brennan said: "The surface qualities of different yarn really intrigues me and it is something that I work with a lot. I love how a single line can be many things."
