Cavaliero Finn has been working with Mizuyo Yamashita since the gallery launched in 2004, shortly after the Japanese artist came to the UK. Over the years we have seen her work and reputation grow from strength to strength.

The subtle variations in colour in this body of work are created through combinations of different clay bodies and glazes. Techniques applied to add the variety of surfaces: Carving / Slip work / Faceting / Glaze layering Satin glazes / Matt glazes / Dry Matt glaze / Crackle glaze / Metalic glazes etc

Talking about this work Mizuyo said:

"In this series, I am exploring harmony and subtle contrast within texture, colour, and shape. Drawing inspiration from Giorgio Morandi’s quiet yet profound still life, I focus on the delicate interplay between these elements, seeking to highlight the understated beauty found in simple forms. Morandi’s colour palette and subtle shifts in tone and shapes has a profound influence on my approach, particularly in my use of glazes and surface treatments. (In some pieces, I use two types of glazes within a single form, creating delicate transitions between them.) I am hoping the interplay of contrasting textures and colours in my work invites the viewer to appreciate both the tactile and visual qualities of each piece. By emphasising surface nuances and form, I seek to evoke a sense of calm and introspection, encouraging a moment of pause and reflection on the intimate relationships between objects. Through this series, I aim to convey the quiet power of simplicity—where the contrast of form and colour reveals a deeper harmony that might otherwise go unnoticed in the everyday."
