Gill Rocca's Impression series are made using enamel on cast resin jesmonite. The artist has a finite amount of these small surfaces. To date she has done twelve print impressions and intends to about twelve more in total. Each one is unique.

Gill always prints in black ink then hand paints using enamel paint over the top, so each one is a unique impression. The images come from photos taken over the years which Gill prints out onto negative film and positive film and then overlays the negative and positive so a new landscape is created -  similar to the imaginary landscapes in her paintings.

The surface is a ground of enamel and the layers are built up with enamel and thinners which reacts with different effects, sometimes dribbling across the work or sometimes resembling loose brush strokes. Gill enjoys the lack of control in these works which are made in layers and she likes the unexpected outcomes which is different to her paintings which are tighter and more controlled.

Gill also uses additions of oil that creates milky blue effects and it's these 'suggestions' of landscapes that led her to title the series impressions. 'Impressions' of a familiar place.

The wash on this impression gives a very wintry other worldly effect as we see the landscape emerge through the fog.

These impressions are titled due to the suggestive qualities of the work.
