Craig Bamford (SASA Works) runs an architectural practice in London combining design with a practical workshop, embedding his knowledge of traditional craftsmanship into contemporary sculptural objects, furniture and architectural spaces. Each work informs the next and leads to new discoveries about material, the elements and human interactions.

Growing up in Kenya, near the Rift Valley, Craig was inspired by the local craftsmen working in harmony with the native landscape, using local materials to create and build homes and objects with future generations in mind - he was struck by the ever present co-existence of man and nature.

Craig believes the objects we have around us have the power to inspire, heal and uplift our mood, and he is continuously striving to develop pieces that embody something of this. Craig has created two pieces for Cavaliero Finn, a wonderfully poetic new sculptural light called Moonlight and a hand-sculpted bench created from London Plane (from a tree outside Euston station) and Oak.
  • Talking about these works Craig commented:

"To walk in the night under the light of the full moon fills the heart with the crisp wonder of its mystery. An everyday grace that allows us to dream our existence. There is something of this enchantment that I seek to bring into the home space in the piece Moonlight. To welcome the cosmic within the domestic so that each day we can attune to something greater than ourselves. The piece has a series of moving and orbiting parts that create a dynamic dance of illumination and shadows either across the surface or close to the wall."

  • "The Wanderer bench is alive with the raw details of the wood and hand sculpted elements. I like to work with wood in this way, so that it carries the elements with it offering a grounding sense of place and rawness that feels calming and quiet. The grain on the surface of this piece appears like a journey through a landscape and the six oak legs are positioned for it to appear to be walking. Walking into the night, into the day and a place to rest in contemplation."
