We are absolutely delighted to finally announce that Balance in Blue by Cecilia Moore has been acquired by the V&A Museum for their permanent collection. We couldn't be happier for Cecilia who never ceases to astonish us with her truly unique metal work. Cecilia is such a talent as well as a wonderful artist to work with- this is so well deserved.
Huge thanks to Becky Knott Senior Curator of Metalwork at the V&A for making this happen and to renowned Metalsmith Simone ten Hompel and curator Frances Parton for including this piece in their co-curated exhibition, Strike a Blow at Goldsmiths Fair last year.
Cecilia Moore won the Golden Fleece Award in 2018 and in addition to the V&A, has work in major collections worldwide including National Museum of Ireland, the Irish State Collectioin and the Ulster Museum.
Balance in Blue is part of Cecilia's continued exploration of form and colour. It was raised in two parts from copper and explores ideas of balance and playfulness. The intense colour was achieved by applying many layers of traditional patina, with natural pigments gradually added to it, and was then waxed and buffed. She has developed her patination processes through extensive study and experimentation. In addition to being shown as part of the Goldsmiths show ‘Strike a Blow’, Balance in Blue was also included in the 2022 World Fair in Dubai, curated by Lynn Scarff, director of National Museum of Ireland for the Irish Pavilion. Additionally, it was included in the ‘Conjuring Form' 2021 DCCI Portfolio exhibition curated by Alice Stori Liechtenstein, in Cork in 2021, then Kilkenny in 2022.
