‘It’s a Fine Line’ is a witty take on the saying, ‘There’s a thin line between love and hate’.

Caron Penney enjoys word play and irony, here she entertains the viewer by using a grey cotton warp thread and red linen to create a series of fine lines. Which one is the finest?, she asks.

The states of love and hate are often very close and both are powerful emotions which show an attraction, affection, and also emotional turmoil.

Using her signature grey palette of wool threads Caron develops two spaces
divided by the intense red, perhaps suggesting there is both light and dark is us all.

Caron’s woven pieces use the same materials traditionally used to make handwoven tapestry with the addition of dyed cotton warp which edge the finely woven pieces. She has a deep understanding of hand woven tapestry techniques and her resulting tapestries continue to be embraced by the training she acquired as a professional weaver.
