In 2020 Helen Carnac moved from London, where she had lived and worked
for over 30 years, to West Somerset to set up home and studios with her
partner David Gates on a Seventeenth century farm. Her daily commute has
become a very different adventure and exploring the farm's outdoor
spaces is evident in her new work.

Inspired by local walks along
the West Somerset coast the colours and surfaces of these new stitched,
vitreous enamel and copper works reflect on the beautiful rock
formations at Blue Anchor and East Quantoxhead, which include Red Marl
stone and Blue Lias formations. The local red sandstone is used in
almost every building and the colour of the soil is a deep, deep iron
red, penetrating everything with its colour, even the wool of the sheep
in neighbouring fields. This rich colour is very prevalent in Helen's
latest works.
