In this new series of works, Richard explores a sustained fascination with outer space, material, and process, considering our intrinsic relationship to the cosmos. Developed through a hand-led stitch practice, in what he describes as “rendering with stitch”. The works emerge as carefully constructed drawings that shift between two- and three-dimensional forms. Each piece of work is a quiet meditation on time, scale, and perception. Together, the works form an imagined timescape, rooted in repetition and physical labour, the process privileges slowness and rhythm.

Minimal and evocative surfaces allude to lunar or planetary forms: delicate stitches scattered across dense wool. These sparse marks punctuate the surface like distant points of light, suggesting both vastness and proximity.

Made over the course of five years, these works have moved in orbit around one another, shaped by invisible forces of influence, accumulation, and return. Through making, the work seeks to reorient attention—offering moments of stillness, order, and connection within an increasingly fragmented world.
