Trevor
Burgess is a painter who captures the colours, hustle and bustle of city street
life from as far away as Argentina, Mexico and India to his hometown of London,
each with its unique palette, light and energy.
City life with their markets are a subject he returns to time and time
again, he says “Markets are part of why cities
exist it’s how they developed as trading centres and, in most cities, markets
are still a hub of city life.”

On
a recent trip to Morocco he was struck by the extraordinary labyrinthine
passages of the of the souks where people are busy making as well as selling
with a thronging square full of storytelling, music and dancing. The terracotta clay colours of North Africa
have affected his palette in this series of paintings, with its unique light. You can literally feel the warmth and almost
hear the bustling noise looking at these works. This little painting is of a herb seller. Moroccan people have a centuries old
tradition of using traditional medicinal and aromatic plants for medicinal
purposes.
