The original inspiration for this Pear Shaped Palmette Flagon came from the Ancient Roman Flagon designs. Mizuyo was attracted to this shape primarily because it is not a shape that is prevalent in Japan but also because it has got many design elements: the body shape, handle, neck and flared lip. By changing the balance of each of these elements Mizuyo manipulates the shape of each Flagon she creates.
Each piece is thrown in stoneware clay treated with both a matt white and pine ash glaze.

Cavaliero Finn has been working with Mizuyo Yamashita since the gallery launched in 2004, shortly after the Japanese artist came to the UK. Over the years we have seen her work and reputation grow from strength to strength.
