Rebecca McLynn

Overview

Rebecca Mclynn’s abstract landscape paintings are inspired by the detail in nature and the power that wild, rugged locations and untamed weather can have over our emotions and feelings of well-being.

Using photography, mixed media and expressive mark making, Rebecca’s colourful, oil paintings capture the essence of a place. Using only a hint of figuration, she allows the viewer to contemplate on their own reminiscences of the wild places they may have visited or explored.

Rebecca travels to remote locations for her work, particularly the west coast and the islands of Ireland, which features areas of unspoiled raw nature both inland and coastal.
Colour and texture is important to Rebecca and time is spent mixing pigments, oils and waxes to enable the artist to reach exactly the right colour, tone and surface.

Rebecca has had a number of solo shows in the UK and Ireland and her abstract landscape paintings are held in collections in the UK, Ireland, France, the US and India.

She has been commissioned to create work for the Four Seasons Hotel, University of Surrey Millennium Initiative and the AIB arts collection.  Her work has been featured in Elle Decoration, Homes and Garden, Methuen Books, on the sets of Rough Magic Theatre Company and Hat Trick’s Vicar of Dibley.

Rebecca’s abstract landscape paintings have been selected for the Laing Landscape awards and the prestigious Discerning Eye Awards.  She has a MA Fine Art in Drawing from Wimbledon School of Art and a BA Honours in Visual Art, Art History and Philosophical Aesthetics from Lancaster University. She also has a PGCE in Art and Design from the University of London Institute of Education.
