Elemental Lines: Cavaliero Finn at Ballroom Arts 152A High Street, Aldeburgh, Suffolk IP15 5AQ UK

8 - 18 June 2023
Overview
This exhibition, which coincided with the Aldeburgh Festival in Suffolk, took place in Ballroom Arts a beautiful space overlooking the North Sea. Elemental Lines examined how the lines of the landscape are integrated into the mixed media works by over 30 artists who all take inspiration from the natural world around them.

Line is the most basic visual element used to define form and shape as well as motion and emotion. The Line is infinite and features here in linear landscapes, horizon lines, cut lines, carved lines, stitched lines, angular lines, cultural lines, gestural lines and abstract lines. We looked at how artists incorporate line into their work, from the lines of the British Coastline in the painterly ceramics of Hannah Tounsend and the abstract landscapes of Angela Charles, to the lines of the river explored by Suffolk artist Annie Turner in her distinctive sculptures that have the appearance of being literally dredged from the river bed.

This mixed media exhibition incorporated wall art with objects in metal, textiles, paint, paper and ceramic against an Aldeburgh seascape - a live horizon line where land meets the sea.

In conjunction with this exhibition a solo show ran in the Courtyard Gallery titled To the Sea of paintings by Cavaliero Finn artist David Edmond
