Jacy Wall’s textile and print work is an exploration of the qualities of textiles, through surfaces, pattern, structure, seams, thread and stitch.  In Ghost Needles and its counterpart, Night Needles, the piece came about in response to several visits to the costume collection at South West Heritage Trust in Taunton. Jacy wanted to make work celebrating the anonymous and exquisitely skilled needlewomen whose work is embedded in the wedding dresses and opera cloaks of wealthy women of the 18th and 19th centuries. This was not just about evoking the look or feel of some of the clothes that the artist saw and handled, but also the time and patience required to make anything approaching their beauty and inventiveness.
