David Edmond's beach series originated from a trip to Coney Island, New York where he was transfixed by bathers on the beach. He was drawn to the interaction, quirks and eccentricities of humanity that take place within a beach setting. A place where he feels human behaviour is rather elementary. In this space imagination, rest and solitude is at home without the distractions of modern day life.
In these new paintings, predominately inspired by the beaches on the Kent coast (Margate, Deal and Broadstairs), parasols, inflatables and windbreaks offer the viewer punches of colour that punctuate the horizon. The overall scene of people relaxing and enjoying the hot sun evokes a real sense of longing for the thrills of summers' past. Despite the crowds, there's a sense of isolation too as each person is going about their business in their own world, cheek by jowl on the beach.
David’s pathway to painting has been rich and varied. He originally studied a Furniture Design BA at Leicester Polytechnic followed by a Printed Textile Design MPhil at the Royal College of Art London. He began painting in 2009 and from 2014-16 attended the Turps Banana Painting Programme in South London.
As well as being represented by Cavaliero Finn, David’s work has been included in a number of other notable exhibitions including: The Royal Academy Summer shows in 2019, 2020 and 2022, The Beep Painting Biennial in 2022, Creekside Open in 2019, The Columbia Threadneedle Prize in 2018, The Lynn Painter Stainer Prize in 2017, Discerning Eye in 2016, Arcade Fine Arts in 2016, Turps – Art Bermondsey Project Space in 2016 and the Clifford Chance Annual Pride Art Exhibition in 2015.
 
In conjunction with this exhibition, a mixed media group show was in the Ballroom upstairs featuring the work of over 30 artists titled Elemental Lines.
