The London Art Fair 2023: Cavaliero Finn presents Into the Night - Encounters 2023

Cavaliero Finn is pleased to be returning to the London Art Fair in 2023 presenting Into the Night - a curated selection of work in the new Encounters section of the fair.

 

The night means different things for different people.  For some, it is a time when they feel completely alone when their fears come to the surface.  For others, it's a time of regeneration, where hope is to be found.  In either case, it is a time when feelings are heightened.

 

The world can seem like a different place at night, when thoughts are emphasised and the stillness forces us to search deep inside ourselves.  There is a peace and tranquillity and a sense of the mystical as we get glimpses of other planets and stars, life beyond what we know. 

 

Throughout history, artists have depicted night scenes; from Caspar David Friedrich and his mystical reverence for nature, to Francisco Goya with his dramatic Fire at Night, and these artists have influenced artists the world over including the Scandanavian artists such as Nikolai Astrup and Harald Sohlberg  who have elements of symbolism and romanticism in their work. 

 

Whether it's light from the moon or from an artificial light, a fire, a nightclub, there is something truly magical about how the landscape is lit.  Away from the harshness of the day we see the world in a new, more diffused and romantic light.  Sometimes the only light we see is from within a house or caravan which hints at a place of comfort safety and familiarity.  At other times, the night suggests a place of danger or a place to hide.  The artists presented by Cavaliero Finn for the London Art Fair 2023 have all sought to capture this particular time in their work, weaving in  their own interpretations and experiences of the night.  We look forward to sharing their work with you at the Fair.
